handmade photographs

As an artist I challenge myself to find ways to create distinctive visual art.  This has led me to the handmade photograph which is a delicate process of transferring my images to other mediums such as handmade paper, glass, wood and yupo paper. The magic happens when I lift a very thin, transparent emulsion which contains a photograph and transfer it to the substrate.  The texture and color of the various substrates adds interest, variety and depth so that each piece is an original and has unique variations.

By creating multiple copies of the image on handmade and watercolor paper I can tear and then layer the images to create a 3D effect. For the transfers onto yupo paper and glass I use a slippery glue to apply the thin skin to the glass or yupo paper. The glue then allows me to move the skin to get creases, folds and tears to create the final artwork.
